CORNELIUS + OX

Cornelius (fka Mica Sigourney, aka VivvyAnne ForeverMORE)

works as a choreographer, dancer, Drag queen, performer and community activist. They combine high theory, low entertainment and rigorous theatrical training- making performance in the borderlands between theater, nightlife and dance.

Their shows look like drag, look like poems, look like dance, look like theater, look like experiments, look like parties. They have shown in different places in the U.S.A as well as Europe.

In 2020 they were on the YBCA 100 which prompted the performance I was paid to be here.

OX, founded in 2008 by Cornelius.

OX keeps the world queer commissioning experimental performance centering queer and trans voices across race and gender expression. OX builds bridges between genres, artists, and professional networks within drag and choreographic contexts. OX’s core values – experimentation, collaboration, and a thriving Queer arts community – directs us toward work that is artistically rigorous, engaged with community and and widely accessible.

OX produces large-cast live theater events, participates in group shows and co-curates evening-length performances using queer modalities such as drag, nightlife entertainment and go-go performance as a point of departure. OX presses against the edges of genres, complicates the "work" of creating, and questions assumptions about what performance is, can be and produces.

With the aim of building artistic exchange between San Francisco and larger performance OX has been building international professional and artistic connections to European performance scenes and stages, since 2013.

Ox receives financial support from Zellerbach Family Foundation, San Francisco Arts Commission, California Arts Council, Kenneth Rainin Foundation, YBCAway Program.

OX is regularly funded by the SF Grants for the Arts/Hotel Tax fund, California art Council, the San Francisco Arts Comission, Zellerbach Family Foundation and the Rainin Family Fundation. OX is a fiscally-sponsored project of CounterPulse.
