10 Acts (6), 1,000 Confetti Cannons, Clear Sight Correct Action
May 2021

In 1,000 Confetti Cannons two dancers shoot off 1,000 handheld confetti cannons over the course of two hours in a studio or theater and in this case a large plastic bubble.

After the performance of 1,000 Confetti Cannons ten object based editions of the artwork were created. Each edition is an eight inch by ten inch clear envelope with confetti gathered from the performance. Collectors the editions will get a link to a password protected video documentation of the performance that rendered these objects as well as a certificate of authenticity signed by the artist with an edition number.

Conceived of in 2016 by Cornelius it was commissioned in 2021 by CounterPulse for their 30 year gala celebration. The piece was slated for production in 2020 at DAS Choreography in Amsterdam, NL, but was interrupted by the Covid Pandemic.

The object based editions of 1,000 Confetti Cannons extends Cornelius’s experimentation with performance objects (props, sets, costumes) as art objects. While the objects carry with them a performed and active history, Cornelius presents them as discreet aesthetic objects. These objects have been physically rendered by processes of mass production, speculative processes of economic exchange and ephemeral processes of performance. They are not what remains of the performance but instead what emerges from the performance.

These objects challenge the typical notion of the performance temporal framework, proposing instead an extended temporality- both of the performance and without it. The performance continues as long as the objects are viewed, considered and collected.
